Captain AmeriCorps Visits Delaware During AmeriCorps Week!
The Corporation for National and Community Service designated the week of March 4th -1th AmeriCorps Week. It was a time to celebrate and highlight the impact AmeriCorps has on communities across the country.
The Delaware AmeriCorps Week Campaign focused on the Captain AmeriCorps Service Tour. The Captain AmeriCorps idea was developed by the 2015-16 Michigan AmeriCorps LeaderCorps members as a way to celebrate the diversity of AmeriCorps programs and shed light on the amazing work members are doing.
Delaware Captain AmeriCorps service tour was a wonderful success with holding three service events and four home dedications for New Castle County Habitat for Humanity home owners.
Thursday, March 9th Central Delaware Habitat hosted an AmeriCorps build whereMinistry of Caring Corps members served.
Friday, March 10th, Central Delaware Habitat hosted an AmeriCorps where Delaware State Parks Veterans Conversation Corps members served.
Saturday, March 11th Delaware State Parks hosted a service project in New Castle County at Fox Point State Park where approximately fifteen AmeriCorps members, the program officer, and additional volunteers cleared the fence line at Fox Point State Park and cleared leaves at Bellevue State Park.
New Castle County Habitat for Humanity hosted four home dedications in Wilmington. In addition to Habitat for Humanity members from all three affiliates (Sussex, Central Delaware, and New Castle County) the AmeriCorps Delaware State Program Director and Program Officer attended along with members from Reading Assist Institute Reading Corps.
